History
Human activity in Zanskar dates back to the Bronze Age (3000-1000 BC).Around 200 BC, influence of Buddhism spread in Zanskar. Tibetans tried to spread Bon religion in Zanskar; however, Tibetans got converted to Buddhism. Buddhism spread widely in Zanskar in the 8th century.
Till the 15th century Zanskar existed as an independent kingdom ruled by four royal families. Dogra general Zorawar Singh conquered Zankar and reduced the power of the royal families. Zanskar became a part of Ladakh region and its fortunes have been closely related to it since then.
